ABOUT LIV

Hi, y’all! My name is Olivia Miller but pretty much everyone calls me Liv.
I am a Senior at the University of South Carolina majoring in Political Science with minors in Journalism and Law & Society. Following graduation in May, I will be attending Law School to pursue my J.D., though I am still deciding where I will be.
I am currently pursuing Graduation with Leadership Distinction along the pathway in Professional and Civic Engagement. Over the past four years, I have been involved in various leadership positions and have taken courses that have challenged and grown me. Throughout this I have been given opportunities to work with the Office of the Board of Trustees here at USC, mentor first-year students, and serve as hearing chair for Carolina Judicial Council.

My role with the Office of the Board of Trustees has been a pivotal experience both professionally and personally. This experience has been instrumental in developing my practical skills, particularly in professional communication, attention to detail, and fostering confidence in high-pressure environments. Despite initial challenges, each day presents an opportunity for growth, and I am continually enriching my abilities to navigate complex responsibilities.

Facing challenges during my freshman year and desiring a sense of community led me to later become a U101 Peer Leader and Orientation Leader. In these roles, I discovered the power of authentic connections in nurturing a supportive learning environment. By embracing authenticity and actively listening to the concerns of my peers, I cultivated an inclusive space where individuals felt empowered to seek guidance and support. This authenticity has not only strengthened my mentorship approach but has also allowed for a more supportive environment.

My experience serving as a hearing chair on the Carolina Judicial Council has shaped me in significant ways. Navigating challenging conversations and conflict resolution has deepened my appreciation for teamwork and inclusive communication. By fostering open dialogue and embracing diverse perspectives to reach a resolution, I've cultivated a culture of understanding and collaboration, enriching both my leadership skills and capacity for empathy and support.

Throughout my time at Carolina, these experiences have highlighted the importance of embracing challenges and fostering lasting relationships and community. While USC has provided abundant opportunities and skills, I am most thankful for the people I've met along the way. From those who supported me during hard moments, cheered me on, and celebrated wins, the mentors who guided me, and the friends who know me best! They are the Gamecocks who have shaped my college experience and contributed to the person I am today, and reflecting on my time at USC would not be as special without them.
